Seats
Most 3 wheel double buggies begin as single pushchairs. However, some models can be converted to accept an additional seat by using adapters. There are also models allow you to add a ride-on board to older children who would like to walk but still need some assistance.
Check out the Joie Evalite Duo for an ultra-lightweight option that is perfect for urban streets. It's easy to move and comes with a large basket that is full of storage. It can be used to accommodate twins from birth and will accommodate two car seats or a carrycot and seat. The seats must face forward and there is no space to store bags of groceries under the seat. You will need an extra sidepack.
If you like to take off-road trips then the Mountain Buggy Duet is a good option. It's a side-by- side model with the most compact footprint of any double buggy that is available. This makes it easier to pass through doors with narrow openings and on public transport and allows you to climb up and down kerbs without much trouble. It also has a handbrake on the adjustable handlebar to provide additional security and safety.
Another option that is light weight is the UPPAbaby Vista 2 Double that can be used to accommodate twins or a toddler and baby. The seats feature multi-position reclining and UPF 50+ sunshades while the canopy can be adjusted to keep the sun from your child's eyes. The Vista 2 can be converted into an UPPAbaby triple by incorporating UPPAbaby's "PiggyBack" board for older children.

It's a true all-terrain pushchair with a soft suspension that can easily handle bumpy surfaces. It can accommodate a massive 30 seating configurations and has a built-in ride-on board for older children who prefer walking plus a 'cinema seating' mode that raises the back seat to allow for better visibility.
The phil&teds dots are brilliant single buggys that can be easily modified to take two (or three!) different configurations. This is especially helpful for parents who have children in your car. The frame can be affixed to a wedgie that allows for optimal lie-flat positioning. Or car seat adapters that fit many brands.
Suspension
The quality of the suspension on a 3-wheel double buggy is essential to how it will be easy for you and your baby to push. A smooth ride is crucial as babies can feel every bump on the road, especially when it's in rough terrain such as grass or unpaved paths. Some models have locking front tires to aid in maneuvering and navigating obstacles like curbs.
Some models have air-filled tyres that are ideal for all-terrain riding, but they are prone to punctures. Make sure you keep a spare set of tyres in your trunk. Some models have gel or foam tyres, which are designed to withstand bumps and are less prone to punctures, but you might feel a bit stiff and uncomfortable on your child's back should you decide to jog.

MFM reviewer Kath took the Urban Glide 2 through its paces with her newborn and 3 year old, and found that it coped really well on difficult terrains: "it navigated effortlessly over pavements that were bumpy and grassy dirt tracks, cobbles and cobbles easily and was able to maneuver around corners and go up and down kerbs. Folding
A 3 wheel double buggy folds pretty well to store it. There are options that fold flat, stand up (as though they were in the shape of a pushchair) and those that are able to open up to reveal more umbrella-style folding, with a hand-operated break. In general the more wheels a buggy comes with the more comfortable it will be to navigate on rough terrain. This is especially true if the wheels are larger than the average size. You will have more stability and it is less likely that you have to tip over or flip your child.
A popular choice is the iCandy Wave, which can be used from birth with an infant car seat and it can be converted into a side-byside double buggy once your child is old enough for them to sit beside each other. It's a comfortable and light-feeling model, which makes it easy to push, and it comes with extra features, including a bumper bar and raincover.
Another option is the phil&teds sport which is future-proof because it's a fantastic single buggy from day one and can be adapted to take two (or even 3!) all within its compact footprint. It is a clever 3-wheel design with a sling seat for greater maneuverability, stability and kerb pop.

One thing that people love about a quality 3 wheel double buggy is the storage capacity. 3 wheel pushchair like the Roma Atlas offer a generously-sized basket as well as two handy zip pockets inside the hood that keep your keys and phone within easy reach. It is also designed to be able to handle a little rough terrain making it a good option for family walks and all-terrain hikes.
Other models, like the UPPAbaby Vista 2 offer plenty of space and flexibility to accommodate twins or a baby and a toddler (it uses their 'PiggyBack' boards to allow this to be done). It's the smallest side-by-side double available. It also comes with impressive technology, including LED visibility lights which are located on each side of its frame to ensure safety in low-light situations.
The Joie Evalite Duo, a lightweight stroller that can hold twins from birth, and is world-facing with a lie-flat seat It's something completely different. Its clever frame expands widthways to accommodate a second seat but it still only weighs about 11kg, making it easy to lift and maneuver. It can also accommodate a car seat or carrycot, so you can get the best of both worlds. it future proofs your wallet as you don't need to invest in another buggy immediately.
